Nalgonda: Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy on Sunday said that the State government has been passing on the fruits of economic growth of Telangana State to the people in the form of welfare schemes and development programmes.
Launching the distribution of Bathukamma sarees to the women at a programme in Suryapet, Jagadish Reddy said that worst situations prevailed in Telangana before 2014 with hunger deaths of weavers and suicides of farmers. Earlier governments have not allowed the people of Telangana even to stage protests on their issue. He pointed out that mounted police force was used by then government against the protesting Anganwadi workers and police open fire on the farmers, who were staging protesting against the hike in electricity tariff before 2014, he reminded. After formation of Telangana State in 2014, the situation in Telangana State was completely changed due to the initiatives of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, he averred.
Listing out the welfare schemes taken up by the TRS government, the Energy Minister said that the Chief Minister stood Telangana state on top in welfare and development in the short span of time, which sent the entire country into surprise. The state government has been extending Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak to all the applicants irrespective of caste and religion. It was also extending Rs 12,000 to each pregnant woman to meet the expenditure of nutritious food during the crucial time, which solved the issue of malnutrition in the mothers and also led to decline in the number of under-weight baby births, he added.
“Recognising the fact that the farmers were not capable of taking up cultivation without borrowing money from others, the Chief Minister has launched investment support scheme Rythu Bandhu to save the farmers from indebtedness. The state government has also waived Rs 17,000 crores of crop loans after 2014”, he pointed out. He said that irrigation facility, 24 hours free electricity supply to agricultural pump sets and special schemes for revival of caste based professions have strengthened the rural economy in the state. Stating that the Centre has decided not procure paddy from the yasangi season, he suggested the farmers to cultivate the crops, which have good demand in the market.
Rajya Sabha member Badugula Lingaiah Yadav and the district Collector T Vinay Krishna Reddy also attended the programme.
