Adilabad: The funeral of slain Maoist leader Mailarapu Adellu alias Bhaskar, secretary of the Kumram Bheem Mancherial divisional committee, was performed at Pochera village in Boath mandal on Monday. Adellu was killed in an exchange of fire between banned Maoists and security forces in a national park in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh, on Friday.
His body was handed over to his family, who performed the final rites. Boath MLA Anil Jadhav attended the funeral, paid tributes to Adellu, and extended condolences to his family. He stated that pressure would be exerted on the State government to ensure support to Adellu’s kin.
Jadhav alleged that the Union government was taking the lives of innocent people under the guise of Operation Kagar, and demanded it hold consultations with outlawed extremists to address their concerns. He vowed to extend all possible support to the family of the deceased Maoist.
Former Boath MPP Tula Srinivas, former Sarpanches Association president Sridhar Reddy, and several others were present.
Adellu was drawn to Left-wing ideology while pursuing his Intermediate studies and joined the Indervelli squad of the Maoist party in 1985. Over the years, he rose to senior positions in the organisation and was known for devising strategies to outwit the police. He had survived multiple encounters with security forces in the erstwhile Adilabad district and carried a reward of Rs. 25 lakh on his head.
