Ganesh idol immersion goes off peacefully in Telangana’s communally sensitive Bhainsa town

Ganesh idol immersion passed off peacefully in Bhainsa on Thursday night amid tight security. Around 760 policemen, 200 CCTV cameras and four drones monitored the procession, while about 200 idols were immersed at Gaddennavagu irrigation project without any untoward incident.

SP Dr Janaki Sharmila, who supervised security arrangements in the town, said that, the procession passed off peacefully with members of different religions extending cooperation to the department. She praised the police officials, locals and various religious organizations for playing a vital role in peaceful conduct of the event.

Mudhole MLA Ramarao Patel, Collector Bhavesh Mishra, and Bhainsa ASP Rajesh Meena and Utsava committee president Sarikonda Srinivas performed special prayers at an idol of Ganesh placed in a temple to kick start the procession in the afternoon. Members of various religious organisations participated in the event which went till early morning.

Security was stepped at Panjesha chowk known for communal conflicts. Sharmila and Rajesh Kumar along with elders of Muslim community welcomed an idol installed since 1921, reflecting communal harmony. She thanked those who extended cooperation to the police department and peacefully organized the ritual.

About 760 policemen including two ASPs, 30 Inspectors and 20 SIs and were deployed to prevent untoward incidents during the procession, while 200 CCTV cameras were installed and four drone cameras were flown along the route of the event to keep a tab on trouble makers. She stated that the event went off without any disturbance.

About 200 idols were immersed at Gaddennavagu irrigation project located on the outskirts of the town with the help of a large crane by midnight. Expert divers were kept available at the spot to rescue devotees if they slipped into the project. Restrictions were imposed on traffic movement at important junctions.
