Superintendent of Police Dr Janaki Sharmila dines along with reunited pairs at a programme held in Nirmal on Friday
Nirmal: Police reunited 52 couples who were living separately following differences of opinions and petty disputes, by counselling through the district’s Bharosa centre from February to November. Superintendent of Police Dr Janaki Sharmila had lunch with the couples and briefed the performance of the centre to pressmen here on Friday.
Sharmila said that the centre played a vital role in reuniting the couples from different parts of the district by counselling. She said the staffers provided tips to the couples to stay united and to resolve their differences. She added the Bharosa centre offers security to women facing domestic violence and mental harassment.
The SP told the women not to fear if they were subjected to injustice and advised women, girls and children to report offences to police. She assured to support the victims by booking cases against the accused persons. She stated that counselling would be given to accused persons if they were minors.
Suresh and Ramya from Mamada mandal centre thanked the police for reuniting them. They stated they were living separately following differences cropping up between them over petty issues for two months. They, however, decided to live together, thanks to the counselling offered by the Bharosa centre. Many other couples echoed similar views and felt happy to have been reunited.
Established in February, the Bharosa centre is staffed by a Sub-Inspector, coordinator-cum-counsellor, auxiliary nurse midwife (ANM), receptionist and support person. It is located near the government degree college. Women can approach the centre by calling 87126 59558. Victims of human trafficking and eve teasing are requested to seek help by dialing 87126 59550 or Dial 100.
Bharosa centres are jointly being operated by the Women Development and Child Welfare and police departments.
