Hyderabad: Ganesh idol immersion procession was passing off peacefully in the city under the watchful eyes of the 20,000 strong police force said the City Police Commissioner, CV Anand, here on Tuesday.

Interacting with the media, he said the police had started planning for the mega event for a few months and with the help of other government departments and cooperation of public the process is going on smoothly.

He said Khairatabad Ganesh idol was immersed at 1.30 pm in Hussain Sagar. “It happened because of hard work of our officers who had spent a whole day planning the journey of the 70 feet idol,” said Anand.

To ease the stress on crane operators and related works, shift system was worked out and the police force was deployed on shift basis for the procession.

The police expect the main roads in the city to be free for movement of regular traffic by Wednesday morning.

“A separate holding area on Necklace Road is earmarked for the idols that reach Hussain Sagar in late night hours. The trucks will be diverted to the holding area and in a planned way immersion will take place,” he added.

The Hyderabad Police Commissioner along with DGP, Dr Jitender, GHMC Commissioner, K Amrapali Kata, Hyderabad District Collector, Anudeep and other officials went on an aerial tour of the city and reviewed the procession during the day.
