Ganesh immersions peaceful across Telangana, process to conclude by Saturday: DGP CV Anand

Telangana witnessed largely peaceful Ganesh idol immersions, with nearly 88,000 idols immersed by Friday morning and the process expected to conclude by Saturday. DGP CV Anand said over 25,000 police personnel had been deployed in Hyderabad, while 13 deaths and 26 injuries were reported during the 10-day festival period.

Hyderabad: Telangana witnessed peaceful Ganesh idol immersions across the state, with the process expected to be completed by Saturday morning, DGP CV Anand said on Friday.

Addressing the media at the DGP office, Anand said 1.24 lakh Ganesh idols had been registered on the state’s Ganesh portal this year, compared with 1.15 lakh last year. Including idols installed in homes, apartments and private premises, the total number across the state could be around 3.5 to 4 lakh.

Around 88,000 idols had been immersed by Friday morning, while the remaining immersions were expected to be completed by 10.30 am on Saturday.

Over 25,000 police personnel have been deployed in Hyderabad for the immersion arrangements.

Additional forces, including TGS­P, RAF, NDRF and OCTOPUS personnel, have also been deployed. CCTV cameras, cranes and emergency services were arranged at major immersion points, with the situation monitored through command and control centres.

Anand said the process was delayed in some areas as Friday’s religious considerations led to processions starting later. The expanded areas under Rajendranagar and Shamshabad also contributed to delays.

The DGP said 13 people died and 26 were injured in incidents during the past 10 days of Ganesh festivities.

He particularly referred to the death of New Kothagudem SI Venkanna, who had come to Hyderabad for immersion duty, and six deaths reported in Patancheru. He also appealed to people to reduce noise pollution and follow safety regulations.
