Hyderabad: For effective management of pollution hotspots, the GHMC on Friday convened a City Level Monitoring and Implementation Committee (CLMIC) meeting under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP).
The committee observed the need for prioritised interventions at major hotspots including, Punjagutta–Patancheru corridor, Charminar–Nampally heritage zone, Hitec City transit corridor and MGBS to Secunderabad railway station corridor.
The Committee framed certain long-term steps to improve Hyderabad’s air quality through GHMC funds and NCAP support.
• Deployment of more electric buses by TGSRTC in high-traffic, high-pollution corridors
• Promotion of electric three-wheelers to replace conventional auto-rickshaws
• Mandatory Pollution Under Control (PUC) compliance for all vehicles
• Installation of foot overbridges (FoBs) and Pelican signals at critical traffic locations
• Encouraging citizens to hand over construction and demolition (C&D) waste to GHMC-authorised agencies at nominal charges and use recycled construction materials
• Strict enforcement against open burning of plastic and other municipal solid waste
