Hyderabad: Gods and goddesses in the heavens are a busy lot these days. So are astrologers and priests on the earth below. With the GHMC elections round the corner, many contestants are pinning their hopes on divine blessings for their campaigns. Some are hoping that the stars align in their favour with astrologers being consulted with horoscopes so that they can suggest solutions to improve their victory potential. Priests too are busy conducting special pujas and prayers across Hyderabad.

Many contestants have already made at least one visit to popular places of worship like the Sri Yellamma Temple in Balkampet, the Sri Ujjaini Mahankali Temple in Secunderabad, Sri Saibaba Temple in Dilsukhnagar and Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Srinagar Colony, just to name a few. Many are offering special pujas and offerings in these temples to ward off the evil eye and to ensure victory.

Around 25 candidates from various parties offered prayers at the Sri Yellamma Temple in Balkampet in the last few days. Temple Executive Officer S Annapurna said devotees strongly believe that their wishes would be fulfilled after taking blessings from the Goddess, adding that it is the same belief that brings candidates to the temple.

At the Sri Ujjaini Mahankali Temple, sitting corporator A Aruna offered special prayers a few days ago, while two TRS candidates and a BJP candidate have offered prayers at the Sri Saibaba Temple in Dilsukhnagar, according to Temple Trust Board Member B Srinivas Yadav. The popular Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Srinagar Colony too has had at least one candidate offering prayers so far.

Brahmana Sangatana Shakti founder Gogulapati Krishna Mohan said most candidates make a beeline to astrologers to predict their chance of winning the elections. “Astrologers can only predict chances but ultimately, it is the candidate’s goodwill and hard work that yields results,” he added.
