Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Tuesday said that a total of 266 dengue cases have been reported in the first seven months of this year, between January 2026 and July 13, of which 127 were laboratory-confirmed dengue cases.
During the same period in 2025, a total of 570 dengue cases were reported, while 821 cases were reported in 2024. Overall, during the full calendar year of 2025, a total of 1,983 dengue cases were reported, while the GHMC recorded 2,806 dengue cases in 2024.
Responding to a news report published in these columns, which highlighted the challenges faced in the prevention, management and control of dengue in Hyderabad, the GHMC said its surveillance system and vector control measures are helping to effectively monitor and control dengue transmission.
“The number of dengue cases reported in GHMC during 2026 is much lower than during the corresponding period in 2024 and 2025. This shows that the surveillance system and vector control measures implemented by GHMC are helping to effectively monitor and control dengue transmission,” the GHMC claimed in a press release.
The municipal body said it is coordinating with other agencies and teams, including District Malaria Officers (DMOs) under the District Medical and Health Officers (DMHOs), National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) teams, and conducting continuous surveillance for dengue and other vector-borne diseases.
