Hyderabad: The CGST & Customs, Hyderabad Zone, celebrated GST Day on Wednesday at the Amaravathi Auditorium in Banjara Hills to mark the successful completion of nine years of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), one of India’s most significant indirect tax reforms.

The celebrations were held under the theme ‘Sugam Kar Vyavastha, Sashakt Bharat’ (Simplified Tax System, Empowered India).

Arun Kumar, IRS, Chief Commissioner of Central Tax & Customs, Hyderabad Zone, inaugurated the event and highlighted the transformative role played by GST in creating a unified national market, improving tax compliance through technology-driven administration, simplifying indirect taxation, and enhancing transparency and ease of doing business. He also appreciated the dedicated efforts of officers and staff in implementing GST and facilitating voluntary compliance among taxpayers.

Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court, Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh, was the chief guest. He appreciated the significant progress made under the GST regime over the last nine years and emphasised the importance of a transparent, fair and efficient tax administration in promoting economic growth and strengthening public confidence in governance.

Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh also underscored the need for continuous cooperation between taxpayers and the tax administration to achieve the objectives of voluntary compliance and nation-building. He stressed the need to conduct outreach programmes to create awareness among stakeholders and advised the department to utilise the Legal Services Authority framework for collaborative efforts.

Padma Shri awardee and renowned film actor Dr K Brahmanandam congratulated the department on completing nine successful years of GST implementation.

An audio-visual presentation showcasing the journey and achievements of GST over the past nine years was screened during the programme.

Commendation certificates were presented to officers and staff members in recognition of their exemplary service, outstanding performance and significant contributions to the effective implementation of GST and Customs administration.
