Gunny bags worth Rs 25 lakh gutted in GCC warehouse fire in Telangana’s Adilabad

Fire officials said that around 90,000 gunny bags were reduced to ashes due to the fire

Adilabad: Large quantities of gunny bags stored in a warehouse of the Girijan Cooperative Corporation (GCC) were gutted when fire broke out in it in Utnoor mandal centre on Sunday.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Value of the property loss was assessed to be approximately Rs 25 lakh.

Fire officials said that around 90,000 gunny bags were reduced to ashes due to the fire. Firefighters from Utnoor fire station were rushed to the spot to extinguish the flames.

Some miscreants were suspected to have ignited the fire. GCC officials said an auction of the bags was conducted two months back. The bags were to be supplied to centres of the District Rural Development Organisation. An inquiry was initiated into the fire accident.

The GCC belongs to the tribal welfare department.
