Gurindervir Singh and Vishal TK create history at Federation Cup

Hyderabad: At the 2026 Athletics Federation Cup, two Indian sprinters did not just win gold, they made history.
Gurindervir Singh delivered a standout performance in the men’s 100m final, clocking 10.09 seconds to win gold and set a new national record. He improved his previous personal best of 10.17 seconds and comfortably cleared the Commonwealth Games qualification standard of 10.16 seconds. Animesh Kujur finished second with a timing of 10.20 seconds, while Pranav Pramod took bronze after clocking 10.29 seconds.
The 400m final produced an equally historic moment. Vishal TK crossed the finish line in 44.98 seconds, winning gold and becoming the first Indian athlete to break the 45-second barrier in the event. It was a performance that will be remembered as a landmark moment in Indian athletics. Rajesh Ramesh claimed silver in 45.31 seconds, while Jay Kumar took bronze in 45.47 seconds.
However, Vishal narrowly missed the Commonwealth Games qualification mark of 44.96 seconds by just 0.02 seconds, falling short by the narrowest of margins.
Overall, it was a historic day for Indian sprinting, with athletes breaking national records and moving closer to international qualification standards at the Federation Cup.
