Warangal Urban: The Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) council on Monday gave its approval for 576 developmental works with an investment outlay of Rs 258.64 crore. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Mayor Gunda Prakash Rao at Ambedkar Bhavan in Hanamkonda. In all, 86 agenda items and 91 table items were discussed at the meeting, and the council approved all of them.
Addressing the meeting, Mayor Prakash Rao said that all the 58 divisions of the city were progressing fast as works costing Rs 1,100 crore had been taken up. “The GWMC has built 350 new toilets in three months and has also set up 16 nurseries in addition to one nursery in the city to grow saplings to improve greenery. Graveyards, cemetries, parks and community halls have also been allotted huge funds,” he added.
Pointing out that statues of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr B R Ambedkar were installed on the premises of GWMC, the Mayor said: “We have improved the facilities in the 42 merged villages and 183 slums and would soon be setting up a bio-mining plant in Rampur (Madikonda) dumping yard.
Corporators including Jorika Ramesh urged the Mayor to allot more funds for the development of internal roads, street lights, drainage, community halls and other facilities in their respective divisions.
MLC Baswaraju Saraiah, Deputy Mayor Khaja Sirajoddin, GWMC Additional Commissioner Chitti Nageshwar, SE Satyanarayana, CP Narsimharamulu, CMHO Dr B Raja Reddy, Secretary Vijayalakshmi and others attended the meeting.
