Hyderabad: Former Minister and BRSMLA T HarishRao on Monday stood in solidarity with distressed residents and shop owners in Gandipet, who were in tears as municipal authorities began demolishing their homes and shops. Following his intervention, the authorities suspended demolitions temporarily and left the spot.
While Harish was passing through the KaliMandir area of Gandipet, locals who were protesting against the demolition of their properties, stopped his vehicle and sought his help. They explained to them that they had been residing in the locality and running businesses for the last 20-30 years, besides paying all taxes including property taxes promptly. They said the authorities did not even serve notices.
Learning that the locals would be thrown onto the streets if the demolitions continued, Harish confronted the municipal officials, questioning the sudden demolition drive. “How will they survive if their shops and homes are destroyed overnight?” he asked, condemning the move as unjust.
Speaking to the BandlagudaJagir Municipal Commissioner over the phone, Harish criticised the government for targeting the poor, stating, “In the name of HYDRAA, their lives have already been shattered. Now, if you take away their shops, what will they do to survive?”
Following his protest, the Municipal Commissioner rushed to the scene and stopped the demolition drive. The locals thanked HarishRao for stepping in and preventing the destruction of their livelihoods.
