Hyderabad: Former Minister and senior BRS MLA T Harish Rao on Monday lashed out at the Congress government for its alleged harassment of Rural Medical Practitioners (RMPs) and Private Medical Practitioners (PMPs). He charged the Congress government with intimidation of medical practitioners and demanded that illegal cases against RMPs and PMPs be withdrawn immediately.
“Under the Congress government, police are storming villages at night, filing cases, and dragging RMPs into their vehicles. This is nothing but an attempt to harass rural healthcare providers,” he alleged.
Participating in a dharna organised by the Telangana Rural Doctors’ Association at Indira Park’s Dharna Chowk on Monday, Harish stated that during the BRS regime, the then Health Minister Dr C Laxma Reddy, had initiated training programmes for RMPs and PMPs, but the current Congress government failed to honour its promise of providing training and certification.
“Instead of supporting them, this government is forcing RMPs and PMPs into despair, even leading some to suicide,” he said, urging Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha to stop the repression.
The former Minister also took a swipe at the Congress, stating that it failed to implement key promises like the Rs 2,500 Mahalakshmi scheme for women and the enhanced pension for senior citizens. Urging people to teach Congress a lesson in the upcoming MPTC and ZPTC elections, he assured the protesting rural doctors of BRS support. He vowed to raise the issue of RMPs and PMPs in the Assembly.
Harish stated that multiple sections of society, including farmers, weavers, and auto drivers, were facing hardships, with many pushed to the brink. He questioned the status of guarantees made before the elections, reminding that both Sonia and Rahul Gandhi came to Telangana and gave false promises, deceiving the people of the State. “What happened to the promises made to Telangana?” he asked.
He pointed out that Revanth Reddy had visited Delhi 11 times but had yet to secure an appointment with Rahul Gandhi. “If the leadership does not prioritise the State’s issues, how will solutions be delivered to the people?” he remarked.
