Harish Rao blames CM Revanth Reddy for law and order breakdown in Telangana
He particularly criticised the Chief Minister for failing to prevent the recent attack by Serilingampally MLA Arekapudi Gandhi on BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy, despite police presence
Hyderabad: Former Minister and senior BRS MLA T Harish Rao on Friday held Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy accountable for the deteriorating law and order situation in Telangana. He accused the Chief Minister of engaging in political vendettas to damage the State’s reputation and divert attention from critical issues.
Speaking to the mediapersons at his residence in Kokapet, Harish Rao questioned Revanth Reddy’s credibility in speaking about Hyderabad and Telangana’s brand image after orchestrating political attacks on the opposition leaders.
“Who escorted Gandhi to Kaushik Reddy’s residence and allowed him to carry out the attack? Was not Revanth Reddy and the DGP responsible for it? Why were not the attacks stopped?” he asked.
The former Minister condemned the house arrests of several BRS leaders, including himself, calling it an effort to suppress the opposition.
“We were placed under house arrest today. Why was not Gandhi placed under house arrest yesterday to prevent the attack?” he questioned, alleging that the police are being used to shield ruling party members while targeting BRS leaders.
Harish Rao criticised DGP Jitender for failing to take action against those responsible for previous attacks on BRS leaders in Khammam and Nalgonda.
He pointed out that while BRS leaders were mistreated, Gandhi and his supporters were treated favourably, despite their role in the attack on Kaushik Reddy. “While we were denied even water, the attackers were treated to biryani in the police station,” he remarked.
The BRS legislator accused Revanth Reddy of orchastrating the attack on Kaushik Reddy and fueling unrest across the State with his reckless language and actions.
He said the Chief Minister’s focus on personal vendettas and political theatrics is an attempt to divert public attention from his government’s failure to fulfill electoral promises and pressing issues including flood relief and farmer support schemes.
“The State government has prioritised money over governance in the past nine months, leading to a collapse in law and order,” he stated. He condemned Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy’s call for beating up the BRS activists, terming it as shameful and unacceptable.
He stated that MLA Kaushik Reddy did not make any comments about Andhra natives living in Telangana, and had only responded to Gandhi directly after he was provoked.
Harish Rao urged the DGP and other law enforcement officials to act impartially, stating that the police should follow the law rather than blindly supporting political conspiracies.
He warned that continued political attacks would only strengthen the BRS’s resolve. “The very stones you throw will lay the foundation for the BRS to return to power,” he cautioned.
