Hyderabad: In a humanitarian gesture, former Minister and Siddipet MLA T Harish Rao has ensured the safe return of 12 Telangana workers stranded in Jordan, who are now set to reach home within a week. He has personally borne expenses including penalties and flight tickets, for their safe return.
The rescue efforts began after Harish Rao received a distress WhatsApp message from one of the workers pleading for assistance to return home. He spoke to them over the phone a few days ago and assured them of his full support in facilitating their return. The workers hailed from Nizamabad, Nirmal, Kamareddy, Jagtial, and Siddipet districts.
Acting swiftly, he brought the issue to the attention of union Ministers G Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay, and officials of the Ministry of External Affairs through BRS Parliamentary Party leader KR Suresh Reddy. He also initiated talks with the Jordanian company that employed them.
Following negotiations, the company agreed to release the workers upon payment of a penalty. Considering their financial hardship, Harish Rao personally bore the expenses, including penalties and flight tickets. After a long wait and ordeal, the workers are set to return to Telangana next week.
Expressing satisfaction over their imminent return, Harish Rao said under BRS chief and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s leadership, Telangana witnessed both welfare and development. He said people who went to the Gulf and other countries for livelihood, had begun returning to their native places.
“But in Revanth Reddy’s 22-month rule, several people started migrating to the Gulf countries again for employment. The Congress government not only failed to deliver promises made to the Gulf workers, but also did not rescue those stranded abroad,” he said.
