Hyderabad: BRS deputy floor leader T Harish Rao on Friday slammed Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy over the composition of the Telangana Education Commission, alleging that the panel lacks qualified educationists and subject experts.

He demanded that decisions affecting the state’s education system be halted and that the responsibility be entrusted only to qualified educationists.

Responding to the Commission’s report on the proposed new education policy, Harish Rao questioned how a policy shaping the future of lakhs of students could be drafted without including academics with doctoral degrees in education, experienced teachers, child psychologists, or syllabus experts.

“Will a new education policy be framed without a single person who has done a PhD in education?” he asked.

The BRS deputy leader said that the committee includes a retired IAS officer as chairman and members without direct experience in school or higher education teaching. He pointed out that, apart from two professors from journalism and mass communication backgrounds, the panel lacks core expertise in curriculum design and pedagogy.

Accusing the government of neglecting the education sector over the past two years, Harish Rao said the formation of such a committee reflected a casual approach.

He argued that administrative experience cannot substitute for academic understanding of child psychology, teaching methodologies, and subject development. He added that the government was experimenting with students’ futures by entrusting policy formulation to those unfamiliar with classroom realities.

He asserted that students, parents, and teachers deserved transparency and clarity regarding the process and the credentials behind the proposed reforms.
