Hyderabad: BRSLP deputy leader T Harish Rao castigated the Congress government for turning a blind eye to large-scale land encroachments in Nadergul, while it deployed HYDRAA to crack down on the poor. He spoke to the officials and sought their urgent intervention.

Several farmers from Nadergul in Balapur mandal of Ranga Reddy district, approached Harish Rao alleging harassment by realtors and the police.

They said nearly 373 acres of government land in Kasubagh Kancha area, was being encroached by some realtors. They submitted photographs and videos of the realtors attacking farmers and destroying borewells and fencing of the agricultural lands. They also complained that police were refusing to register their cases while filing counter cases against them.

Responding immediately, Harish Rao spoke to district Collector Narayana Reddy, Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar and local revenue officials, seeking their urgent intervention. He reminded them that the government itself had affirmed in court that the land belongs to the State, questioning the inaction now.

“Is HYDRAA meant only for demolishing the homes of the poor? Why is it silent when influential persons are encroaching upon lakes and government lands worth thousands of crores?” he asked, alleging political patronage behind the land grab.

The senior BRS leader urged officials to remove illegal fencing, restore cultivation rights of farmers, protect feeder channels to the lake and ensure traditional fishing rights for the Mudiraj community. He also sought action against police personnel accused of collusion. He warned that he would personally visit the site if justice was delayed.

Officials reportedly assured to inquire into the complaints from farmers and initiate necessary action. Farmers, who said they had been cultivating the land for decades, hoped that intervention at the political level would finally bring relief.
