Hyderabad: Twelve migrant workers from Telangana, who had been trapped in Jordan under different circumstances, have finally returned to their native villages, thanks to the relentless efforts of Bharat Rashtra Samithi leader and former minister T. Harish Rao.
The workers, who arrived in Hyderabad in the early hours on Saturday , were received at Harish Rao’s residence. Overwhelmed with emotion, they expressed their gratitude to the BRS party and Rao personally for rescuing them from dire circumstances abroad.
They thanked Rao for facilitating their safe return to India. Recounting their ordeals in Jordan, the workers shared tales of immense suffering, including going hungry for days and facing exploitation.
‘We endured unimaginable troubles there without enough food, without hope,’ one of them said, tears welling up in all their eyes as they spoke. Despite repeated pleas to the State government for assistance in repatriation, their cries went unheeded.
They also approached local Congress and BJP MPs and MLAs, but received no response or support.
“We begged the government to help us come back to Telangana, but they turned a blind eye,” the group lamented.
They hailed the BRS for stepping in where others failed. “What we owe to the BRS and Harish Rao can never be repaid,” they added.
During the emotional meeting, Harish Rao patiently listened to their stories, inquiring about their family situations and the specific challenges they faced in Jordan. He reassured them and encouraged them to explore local opportunities for employment and livelihoods.
Following the interaction, special vehicles were arranged to transport the workers back to their villages in Jagtial, Nirmal, Kamareddy, Nizamabad and Siddipet districts.
Harish Rao, on this occasion, credited former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao for directing the rescue operation. “On KCR garu’s instructions, we worked tirelessly to bring these 12 individuals back home,” he said.
Rao highlighted the crisis affecting migrant workers from Telangana, who often venture to countries like Jordan, Israel and Gulf nations in search of better livelihoods or to repay debts, only to fall prey to unscrupulous agents.
“Many lives are being ruined in the process,” he noted.
Upon learning of their plight, Rao said his team escalated the matter to both the Central and State governments, urging immediate intervention. The workers themselves approached the Indian Embassy in Jordan multiple times and submitted petitions to the state administration, but to no avail, he said.
“Ultimately, we had no choice but to pay the penalties ourselves to secure their release and safe return,” Harish Rao said, underscoring the government’s inaction.
“Even now, I request the government. Countless Telangana youth are struggling in foreign lands. It is the duty of governments to protect our children,” he said.
