Hyderabad: Commemorating the 10th anniversary of the flagship Haritha Haram programme, BRS working president KT Rama Rao credited the visionary leadership of former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao for transforming Telangana into a green haven. He stated that Telangana’s green cover rose from 24 per cent to 33 per cent over the decade.
“A small sapling can quietly give birth to an entire forest. What started as a small idea on July 3, 2015, transformed Telangana State into a green haven in just a decade,” the former Minister said, adding that during this period, the forest area increased by 6.85 per cent, tree cover by 14.51 per cent, and overall greenery by 7.7 per cent.
Rama Rao said Haritha Haram was never about planting a sapling or developing a forest, but about increasing green cover in every part of the State and creating a sustainable, pollution-free environment for future generations. He recalled that the initiative led to the establishment of nurseries and Palle Prakruthi Vanams (nature parks) across 19,472 gram panchayats and 143 municipalities and corporations.
