HCA to name five senior selectors in a day or two

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) president Mohammed Azharuddin said the long-awaited five member selection committee will be in place in two days’ time.
He said the three-member Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) of SL Venkatapathy Raju, Purnima Rau and Sudeep Tyagi had been named in the last Annual General Meeting.

“They were advised to nominate the senior selection committee as per the bye laws,’’ he said. Azharuddin further said they will be shortly organizing T20 league-cum-knock out matches for three-day and two-day teams. “The senior selectors will be asked to watch these matches,’’ he added.

Time is literally running out for HCA as the Hyderabad team has to be picked for the revised season opener Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament that is scheduled to begin from October 27. There is no word on who will coach the team also. Last season Anirudh Singh coached the team.

As per Covid-19 protocols, the teams should reach the respective destinations ten days ahead of the tournament for the bio-bubble.

According to the Lodha Committee reforms, the men’s selection committee shall consist of five persons to be appointed by a Cricket Advisory Committee comprising of reputed former international cricketers identified by the HCA at the Annual General meeting, subject to the following criteria:
(a) Every member of the men’s selection committee should have played a minimum of (i) Seven Test matches; or (ii) Thirty first class matches; or (iii) Ten one-day international matches and 20 first class matches.
(b)Every member of the men’s selection committee should have retired from the game at least five years previously.

But unfortunately the infighting in the association has led to the non-appointment of CAC and subsequently the five-member selection committee. The association even ran into controversy when a two-member selection committee picked the team for Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament last season.
