Hyderabad: Investigation into the death of R Mounika, a student of the University of Hyderabad who was found hanging in her room on the campus on Monday night, is yet to throw any light into what could have led to the suspected suicide. The police on Tuesday enquired with her friends and hostel mates, but with not much of a breakthrough.
G Suresh, SHO (Gachibowli) said preliminary investigation had indicated that Mounika did not attend evening classes on Monday and when her friends tried to reach her, she did not respond to phone calls.
“They went to her room and knocked on the door but she did not respond. They alerted us and we broke open the door and found her hanging to the window,” he said, adding that though the police spoke to her friends and roommates, none of them were able to throw much light on the possible reasons behind her taking the extreme step.
“We are sending her mobile phone to the forensic laboratory for examination. Analysis of Call Detail Records will be done and probably we will be able to know the circumstances leading to her death,” he said, adding that the police had found a note purportedly written by her in the room, in which she apologised to her parents for ending her life but at the same time, said no one was responsible for her death.
Meanwhile, an autopsy was performed by a team of doctors at the Osmania General Hospital mortuary on Tuesday, after which her body was handed over to the family. Her father Lachaiah, who said she did not have any family or personal problems, has demanded a thorough probe into the death. Mounika, a native of Peddapalli district, was a second year M Tech (Nano Science) student at the university.
