Heavy rains damage crops at several districts in Telangana

Rain water flooded the procurement centres at several places as the farmers stood helplessly.

Sangareddy: Several parts of Sangareddy, Siddipet and Medak districts witnessed heavy to moderate rains causing serious damage to standing paddy crops and also the harvested paddy brought to procurement centres by the farmers across the erstwhile Medak district, on Sunday.

Rain water flooded the procurement centres at several places as the farmers stood helplessly. With the weatherman predicting more rain for next two to three days, officials are gearing up to protect the paddy from rains.


Siddipet District Collector P Venkatrami Reddy instructed the officials to distribute enough tarpaulins to cover the paddy at the procurement centres. He also suggested that they store the paddy in Rythu Vedikas until the rain recedes. The Collector called upon the farmers to take all the due care to protect their produce for the next three days.

Meanwhile, mango orchards also suffered serious damage due to the untimely rains.

Rains at Khammam

Khammam: A few mandals in erstwhile Khammam witnessed light rainfall on Sunday.
The weather remained partially cloudy during the day and several places received showers in the evening hours. As many as 11 mandals in Khammam received very light to light rain with Kallur mandal receiving 3.6 mm rainfall, highest in the day.

Similarly, eight mandals in Kothagudem district received light rainfall as 14.9 mm rainfall recorded in Aswaraopet mandal. The District Collector MV Reddy directed the officials to take measures to protect paddy at procurement centres.
