Khammam: Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar has directed the district administration to remain vigilant in the wake of heavy rains across Telangana State.

The Minister, accompanied by District Collector VP Gautham and Municipal Commissioner Anurag Jayanthi, visited the areas surrounding Munneru stream here on Friday to inspect the flood situation and gave appropriate instructions to the authorities.

Those in flood-prone areas have already been rehabilitated at the local Naibazar College. They were provided with food, drinking water and basic amenities. Following the directions of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao all arrangements were made for relief operations in the flood affected areas, Ajay Kumar told the media persons.

No property damage or loss of life has been reported so far, but the district administration had already been directed to be on high alert in view of heavy rains and floods across the district, the minister said.

Ajay Kumar said he was in constant touch with Khammam and Kothagudem District Collectors monitoring the flood situation. As the meteorological department has warned of heavy rains in the next couple of days, the field level officials were directed to stay local.

Appropriate warnings and sign boards have been set up at the overflowing streams to alert the public in rural areas. Officials were told to constantly coordinate with the public representatives to prevent any untoward incidents and to evacuate those in old houses and keep them in safe places.

MLC Balsani Lakshminarayana and Mayor P Neeraja accompanied the minister.
