Hyderabad: Heavy rains lashed the Ieeja municipality and neighbouring areas in Gadwal district on Monday resulting in overflowing of canals and flooding in different areas.

The rains commenced around 9 am and continued for over an hour leaving many streets in the colonies of the Ieeja municipality and several areas in different villages under sheets of water. In few areas, people had to pump out the water from their houses using utensils.

The overflowing water from the Poloni stream left many areas in Chinna Tandrapadu, Pulikal and Uttanur villages submerged affecting traffic flow. The movement of people and vehicles was badly hit in Chinna Thandrapadu, Venisompuram, Nauroji camp, Keshavaram, Chinna Dhanwada, Nasanur and other villages. At many places, vehicles got stuck in knee-deep waters, putting passengers to inconvenience.

According to Telangana State Development Planning Society, the highest rainfall of 76 mm rainfall in the State on Monday was recorded at Rajoli mandal in Gadwal, followed by 60 mm in Waddepally mandal in Gadwal. Chinna Thandrapadu received 58.3 mm, followed by Ieeja (54 mm), Venkatapur (47 mm) and Mallapuram (28.8 mm) in Gadwal.
