Hyderabad: TRS MLC K Kavitha appealed to the State government to direct the Housing Board not to burden the lower and middle-income families in the housing board colony in Nizamabad town. She raised the issue in Legislative Council here on Monday, when Housing Minister V Prashanth Reddy introduced a Bill to amend the Telangana Housing Board Act.
Kavitha said the Housing Board in the past, had acquired land from private persons and allocated plots to low and middle-income groups at a particular price. However, with landowners approaching the court and orders being issued in their favour, lower and middle-income families were now being made to bear an additional burden of about Rs 18 crore, citing escalating land prices and other reasons, she said.
Kavitha urged the Housing Minister to come up with a solution, including the possibility of waiver of the financial burden as the families cannot bear the burden. Earlier during question hour, Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy said the total power consumption of domestic and commercial sectors in 2020-21 year was 17,935 million units and the total installed capacity of power generation was 16,613 MW. The revenue generated by Telangana DISCOMS for the current financial year (till August 21) was Rs.13,865 crore, he said.
Finance Minister T Harish Rao said since State formation, the construction of 1,402 check dams was taken up at a cost of Rs 4,589 crore. Of these, 151 check dams were completed and 689 check dams were in the advanced stage of execution.
