Hyderabad: A businessman from the city has alleged that he was cheated to the tune of Rs 3.5 crore by a couple who promised to launch his son as a film hero and provide high returns on a movie investment.
The complainant from Moosapet alleged that he came into contact with the couple, who claimed to be producing a big-budget film and were searching for a lead actor. When the businessman expressed interest in securing a role for his son, the couple allegedly convinced him to invest in the project, assuring him that his son would be cast as the hero and that the investment would generate profits within six months.
Police said the businessman reportedly paid Rs 3.5 crore in multiple instalments. However, even after two years, the film never went into production.
When he repeatedly sought repayment, the couple allegedly delayed the matter with various excuses. Earlier this year, they returned Rs 50 lakh and executed an agreement promising to repay the remaining amount. The balance, however, was never paid back.
The complainant further alleged that when he demanded the money, the couple threatened to ruin his son’s future and harm his family.
Following his complaint, Kukatpally police registered a case and later transferred the investigation to the Cyberabad Economic Offences Wing (EOW).
