Heroin worth Rs.19.5 crore seized in Hyderabad airport
Based on a tip off, the DRI team intercepted the Tanzanian passenger after he reached the airport by a flight from Johannesburg via Doha early on Monday.
Hyderabad: In a major seizure, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence caught a Tanzanian national and seized three kilogrammes of heroin, worth Rs.19.5 crore, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport here on Monday.
Based on a tip off, the DRI team intercepted the Tanzanian passenger after he reached the airport by a flight from Johannesburg via Doha early on Monday.
“On detailed examination of his baggage, three kilogrammes of white powder which was concealed beneath the base of his trolley bag was recovered. The substance tested positive for heroin,” DRI officials said, adding that the contraband was seized and the passenger arrested under provisions of the NDPS Act.
On June 2, DRI officials had seized 12 kg of heroin worth Rs.78 crore from two women passengers at the RGIA. They had reached here from Zambia and Uganda with the drug concealed in their baggage.
