HGA announces Golf league from September 12
Sixteen teams and 200 golfers will play for the honours.

Hyderabad: In a bid to popularise the game of golf in the Hyderabad and across the country, Hyderabad Golf Association (HGA) has decided to launch the first edition of the “Sreenidhi University Telangana Premier Golf League- 2021” (TPGL).
Spread over 28 days, the TPGL is set to kick start from the September 12 at the HGA Golf Course. Sixteen teams and 200 golfers will play for the honours. The association has formalised a professional format on the lines of prestigious international golf tournaments and has initiated the process of finalising the teams and players.
Addressing the media, Charu Sharma, cricket commentator, compere & Quiz Master and Dayakar Reddy, president of HGA said, the tournament will have eight rounds in three different formats over five weeks, with 16 teams competing. The league will be played in a Match play format with five rounds at league stage and three Rounds of Knock out/playoff matches (Quarter Finals, Semi Finals and Finals). The League concludes with final play-off rounds on October 9.
Former Test cricketer VVS Laxman appreciated the way HGA conducted the auction. “It was a wonderful initiative. Even in IPL we realised every year, we get better and better. You learn from what could have done better and improve on that the next year,’’ he said.
He said he was happy that SL Venkatapathy Raju is an avid golfer. “I feel good that I could visit this club. This is one of the scenic clubs in a beautiful location adjacent to the Fort,’’ he said. Twenty Corporates bid for the 16 teams, the teams were selected in a reverse auction bid.
