Hyderabad: A two judge panel of the Telangana High Court comprising the Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Abhinand Kumar Shavali on Monday directed the State Government to take disciplinary action and to initiate criminal proceedings against the erring officials involved in embezzlement of 40 lakhs rupees allotted towards Souchalaya funds by the Central Government. The panel was dealing with a PIL filed by M Sekhar Reddy challenging the said embezzlement by the Sarpanch, Panchayat Secretary and Bill Collector of Narsingi Village in Medak District.
The petitioner contended that the amounts were transferred to the personal accounts of the said officials and that they did not carry out any developmental works such as laying of cement roads, sewerage pipe lines etc. The Additional Director General of Police Telangana Anti Corruption Bureau filed his affidavit stating that action is being taken against the erring officials in the said regard which, the panel directed to be concluded as soon as possible.
Amicus Curiae
The panel appointed Senior Counsel L. Ravichander as amicus curiae in a taken up PIL on a news item published in Eenadu daily about harassment and torture meted out to Mr. Banya and his family members in a murder case in the name of investigation by the Chennaraopeta Police. The victims Mr. Banya and Mrs. Bhukya Kamalamma suffered severe injuries on their limbs in the said torture. It was alleged that the daughter of the victims married one Satish who was later murdered on December 1st 2021 by unknown persons. The victims were allegedly tortured for 10 days in the name of investigation.
