Hyderabad: Many were excited over the release of water from the Himayat Sagar into the Musi, but not anyone in the house of Shaik Mehtab at Kishanbagh.
In October last year, the surging waters from the Himayat Sagar had consumed Shaik Amair (18), when he fell into the Musi. A resident of Asadbabanagar in Kishanbagh, on the banks of River Musi, Amair had gone along with his friends to have a glimpse of the river.

“Amair fell in the water and was swept away. People tried to save him but the strong flow was a deterrent for the best swimmers,” Amair’s father Shaik Mehtab said. It was on October 18 that the family last saw Amair when he ventured out despite a warning from his mother.
“Since then, we are waiting for the news of at least someone finding his body. He shared the responsibility of running the household along with me and was working as a painter,” a distraught Mehtab told ‘Telangana Today’. The family met several people in the last one year but help did not reach them. The government assured to provide some financial assistance to those killed due to the flash floods.
“In our case, we did not find the body, so could not claim the amount,” said Mohd Fareed, a relative of Amair. Mehtab is now working at the Mahabubgunj market with an onion seller.
