Hyderabad: Hockey India today announced Adoptrees as the official Sustainability Partner for the FIH Hockey World Cup 2026 Qualifiers to be held here from March 8 to 14.

This is part of its commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.

As part of this unique green initiative, Adoptrees will plant 50 trees for every penalty corner earned during the tournament and 100 trees for every goal scored, directly linking on-field action with meaningful environmental impact.

The trees will be planted across Telangana, Nagaland, and Arunachal Pradesh, contributing to ecological restoration and expanding green cover in diverse regions of the country. The initiative aims to create a lasting ecological legacy while promoting awareness about sustainability among athletes, fans, and communities.

Co-founded by humanitarian Dr Rohith Reddy, K Chishi, and Ritika Saha, Adoptrees emerged from a vision of compassion and responsibility towards both people and the planet. Today, Adoptrees brings together individuals across generations — from young changemakers striving to heal the world to elders seeking to give back — united by a shared commitment to restoring green cover.

The partnership also aligns with the International Hockey Federation’s (FIH) global sustainability campaign, “Give Back to Forest,” championed by FIH President Tayyab Ikram. The initiative seeks to combat climate change by planting trees to compensate for wood historically used in hockey sticks and to offset the sport’s carbon footprint.

Hockey India president Dr Dilip Tirkey said, “Hockey has always stood for teamwork, responsibility, and respect — values that extend beyond the field. We are delighted to welcome Adoptrees as the Sustainability Partner for the FIH Hockey World Cup Qualifiers 2026, Hyderabad, Telangana. By linking every penalty corner and goal to a tree plantation, this initiative transforms sporting achievements into a lasting environmental legacy. It perfectly reflects hockey’s growing commitment to sustainability and aligns strongly with FIH’s ‘Give Back to Forest’ campaign.”

Hockey India secretary general Shri Bhola Nath Singh added, “The partnership with Adoptrees is a meaningful step towards integrating environmental consciousness into major sporting events in India.”
