Hyderabad: ICBM-School of Business Excellence Director, Dr. S Zarar says that the PGDM is a good choice for students to excel. In an interview with Telangana Today, Dr Zarar shares about the ICBM’s PGDM programme, specialisations and placements.
On PGDM
The Post-Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) is a flagship management programme of the business schools which is directly awarded under the affiliation of the AICTE. The PGDM is on-par with MBA or still better. In the 1960s, when IIMs were started in Calcutta and Ahmedabad, the basic certification that the institute gave was PGDM. Two years ago, all IIMs received a special status by Parliamentary act and now they are giving MBA degrees. So, there is no distinction between PGDM and MBA.
On specialisation
The PGDM is a unique programme with triple specialisation. Marketing, HR, operations, finance and information technology can be opted by students. Artificial Intelligence (AI) or Business Analytics (BA) is the order of the day. Today anyone who is planning a career in any field, AI or BA is the basis. If they have good knowledge of AI or BA, they can do wonders.
On eligibility and admission procedure
Admissions are open for any graduate with 50 per cent of marks. Even BDS/MBBS can join the course to take hospital administration and healthcare management as a specialisation. Students should qualify in any of the six tests CAT/ZAT/CMAT/MAT/GMAT/ATMA and ICET. Students qualified in said tests will be invited for group discussion and interview and sometimes written ability test.
Fee structure and course duration
The PGDM is a two-year course with six trimesters. Each trimester is of four months. The fee structure will be Rs.6 lakh and an education loan can be availed from banks.
On job opportunities and placements
There are good placements for the PGDM programme with packages ranging from Rs.4 lakh per annum to Rs.15 lakh per annum. About 70 per cent to 80 per cent of students will be placed with a minimum of Rs.5 lakh per annum to Rs. 8 lakh per annum.
