Hyderabad: 13-year-old girl strangled in freak accident in Malakpet

A 13-year-old girl in Hyderabad’s Malakpet area died in a freak accident after a makeshift swing she created using a saree tied to a ceiling fan turned fatal. She succumbed during treatment at a private hospital.

Hyderabad: A 13-year-old girl died in a freak accident involving a makeshift swing she fashioned using a saree tied to a ceiling fan at her residence in Malakpet on Saturday.

According to the police, the victim, Shivayasi Shresta, (13), had tied a saree to the fan on Saturday afternoon. While she was playing on the swing, the saree tightened around her neck strangulating her.

The younger sibling of the victim noticed her elder sister was struggling for breath and rushed out to inform the neighbours, who came to the girl’s rescue. A neighbour cut the saree using scissors and rushed the victim to hospital, where she died during treatment later in the night.

The Malakpet police have registered a case.
