Hyderabad: Mayor G Vijayalakshmi on Wednesday said the families of the two workers who died while cleaning sewerage lines in LB Nagar zone on August 3 will be given a double-bed room house each under Telangana Government’s Dignity Housing Scheme.
On Wednesday, the Mayor, along with Anjana Panwar, member of the National Safai Karamchari Commission, handed over a cheque for Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the labourers. The amount was granted from Mayor’s Fund.
“The District Collector told me that double-bed room houses have been allotted to both the families,” Vijayalakshmi said. The officials were also instructed to make sure that such untoward incidents were not repeated in the future.
An ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh each was handed over to the family of the two workers on Saturday by the GHMC and the contractor was asked to pay Rs 5 lakh each to the family. She also said that cases have been booked on the contractor.
The Mayor also met the family of former Deputy Mayor Golkonda Raj Kumar, who died of heart attack on Tuesday, and consoled the family members. Raj Kumar was elected as a corporator from Kavadiguda ward and served as Deputy Mayor from 2012 to 2014.
