Hyderabad: The Old Marredpally 2BHK Dignity Housing Colony in the Secunderabad Cantonment constituency is slated for inauguration on Thursday.
Municipal Administration & Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao, Animal Husbandry Minister T Srinivas Yadav, Mayor G Vijaya Laxmi, Secunderabad Cantonment MLA G Sayanna and others are expected to attend the inaugural ceremony.
The colony, spread over 5.18 acres, comprises 468 dwelling units has been built by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation at an estimated cost of Rs 36.27 crore. With a plinth area of 560 sft, the cost of each dwelling unit is 7.75 lakh. The 468 dwelling units are spread over 22 blocks and built in a G 3 pattern. The Old Marredpally 2BHK Dignity Housing Colony is equipped with CC roads, sewerage lines, electricity and sumps for drinking water, officials said.
Secunderabad Cantonment MLA G Sayanna recalled the condition of the people who used to live in the slum where the 2BHK project has been built.
“People used to suffer with every spell of rain as they were living in temporary sheds. The slum did not have even basic civic amenities like roads. Finally, the families will start a new journey from March 3 in their brand new houses that will be given for free,” he said.
Stating that 468 families would now live with dignity due to the 2BHK housing scheme formulated by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and the efforts of Minister KT Rama Rao. he said the scheme was formulated to provide a dignified livelihood to the poor with 100 percent subsidised housing.
Drinking water scheme for SCB
Every household in Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) will receive 20,000 litres of free drinking water per month and the scheme will be implemented soon. Though the board is completely under the control of the union government, all the State government schemes including Aasara pension, Kalyana Lakshmi/ Shaadi Mubarak, are being extended to people living in the SCB.
