Hyderabad: Senior pulmonologists and critical care specialists from Kamineni Hospitals, LB Nagar have successfully treated a 64-year-old patient Narasimha, who had a single lung and was suffering from acute pulmonary thromboembolism, a medical condition where the pulmonary arteries of the lungs get blocked due to blood clots, and pneumonia.
Senior pulmonologists including Dr. Ravindra Reddy, Dr. Subhakar Kandi, and critical care specialist, Dr. Sardar Shaik, said Narasimha was admitted to the hospital’s ICU with sudden shortness of breath and required sequential oxygen support, non-invasive ventilation and later invasive ventilation support, which needed tracheostomy.
About 40 years ago, Narasimha’s left lung had to be resected due to lung damage. “He was started out on treatment and was closely monitored round the clock by hospital healthcare workers. His pneumonia slowly resolved and his saturations returned to normal. He was extubated successfully after five days on the ventilator,” said Dr. Reddy.
Due to the fragile health history of Narasimha, his family members were sceptical about his recovery, the doctors said. “It took 14 days of relentless efforts by the team of doctors to get Narasimha back to good health,” they said.
