Hyderabad: Balanagar police recovers 69 mobile phones worth Rs 15.2 lakh using CEIR portal

The Balanagar Division police recovered 69 lost or stolen mobile phones worth ₹15.2 lakh in a month using the CEIR portal. The devices were returned to their owners, who thanked police for the swift action and recovery.

Hyderabad: The Balanagar Division police have recovered a total of 69 mobile phones worth Rs 15.2 lakh, which were either stolen or lost in the last one month.

The phones were recovered by the law and order police and other wings using the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal. The recovered phones were handed over to their owners at an event held on Monday.


Of the phones recovered, 36 were recovered under Jeedimetla PS limits, 23 under Sanathnagar PS limits, 7 from Balanagar PS limits and 3 from Jagadgirigutta PS limits.

ACP Balanagar Naresh Reddy highlighted how important were mobile phones in today’s time and they can be misused if fallen into the hands of thieves. “Despite many people being educated, few are aware of how to prevent stolen mobiles from being misused. Installing CCTV cameras in your colonies and community areas is highly beneficial for ensuring safety and security,” Naresh Reddy said.

He urged the citizens to report lost mobile phones either at their nearest police station or directly through the CEIR portal, which is accessible online across all States and union Territories. “Using the CEIR portal helps prevent the misuse of stolen phones and facilitates their swift recovery,” the ACP added.

The mobile phone owners expressed their happiness and thanked the police for their prompt and efficient action.

What to do if the phone is lost

  • File a police complaint (FIR) about your lost or stolen phone. You’ll need a copy (digital or physical) for the CEIR filing process
  • Locate your phone’s IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number, it usually is on a sticker behind the battery or printed on the retail box
  • If you can’t find IMEI physically, dial *#06# on your phone to retrieve the IMEI number
  • Visit the CEIR portal. Click on the red tab, ‘Block Stolen/Lost Mobile’
  • A form will appear. Fill in the mobile number associated with the lost or stolen SIM card, IMEI number, FIR details
  • Complete the Captcha verification and click ‘Get OTP’
  • An OTP will be sent to your mobile number (provided you still have access to another phone with that number). Enter the OTP to verify
  • The CEIR system will process your request. Upon successful registration, you will receive a confirmation message with a reference ID for future reference.
