Hyderabad: Hyderabad-based Kiora Care, a kidney health company, on Thursday announced the launch of Ren-IQ, a diagnostic tool designed to detect kidney disease years earlier and more accurately, the company in a statement said.
Ren-IQ includes Cystatin C as its anchor biomarker, which is a protein produced at a constant rate by virtually every cell in the body. The company in a statement said that unlike creatinine, the Cystatin C levels are a reliable and equitable marker of kidney function for South Asian populations.
“Kidney disease is often detected far too late, especially in South Asians. Studies have shown that Cystatin C offers a more accurate way to assess kidney function earlier in the disease course,” Prof. Joseph Bonventre, Samuel A. Levine Distinguished Professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, and member of Kiora’s Scientific Advisory Board, said.
Through this tool, we aim to identify high-risk individuals early and support them by monitoring, and disease management, Anupam Dey, an MIT alumni and Dr K S Nayak, senior nephrologist from Hyderabad, cofounders of Kiora, said.
