Sangareddy: The call for enrollment of volunteers to participate in the Hyderabad bird survey to prepare a bird atlas for the State capital has received an overwhelming response.

As many as 622 wildlife photographers, bird watchers, and wildlife enthusiasts enrolled for the bird survey. The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Hyderabad Birding Pals (HBP), Deccan Birders and other organisations have joined hands to prepare the Hyderabad Bird Atlas (HBA) by carrying out a scientific survey across Hyderabad inside the Outer Ring Road (ORR).

When the HBA invited applications from volunteers, it expected some 300 to 500 volunteers to enroll for the bird survey. However, it has exceeded their expectations with a staggering 622 people enrolling for the project.

Speaking to Telangana Today, Sriram Reddy, a key member of HBA, said they would soon start the training for volunteers on how to record the birds and habitats to prepare the bird atlas.

The first survey would begin in February 2025 and the second survey would be in July. They wanted to continue the survey for the next three to five years to prepare an accurate bird atlas for Hyderabad by carrying out the survey twice a year, he added.
