Hyderabad-born diabetes expert Prof. Wasim Hanif conferred with prestigious UK honour
Hyderabad-born diabetes specialist Prof. Wasim Hanif has been conferred the Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the King's Birthday Honours List 2026.

Hyderabad: Diabetes specialist and healthcare leader of Hyderabad-origin, Prof. Wasim Hanif has been awarded the Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the King’s Birthday Honours List 2026.
Currently serving as Professor of Diabetes and Endocrinology at the University Hospitals Birmingham and Clinical Advisor to Diabetes UK, Professor Hanif has spent more than three decades contributing to the United Kingdom’s healthcare system.
Born and educated in Hyderabad, Prof. Hanif completed his schooling at St George’s Grammar School before pursuing medicine at Gandhi Medical College. He moved to the United Kingdom in 1995, where he built a career in clinical medicine, research, healthcare leadership and medical education.
Prof. Hanif said he was humbled by the recognition and added, “Throughout my career, I have been driven by a desire to improve the lives of people living with diabetes and to address the inequalities that continue to affect health outcomes across our society.”
