Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Central Crime Station police on Monday arrested K Guru Prasad, who introduced himself as the project director of a self-styled NGO Margadarshi Poorest of the Poor Development Society and allegedly duped people of Rs 2.5 crore.

According to the police, Guru Prasad set up the society and lured people saying the Central government was providing loans to the below poverty line families and collected the money between Rs 3 lakh and Rs 10 lakh as a deposit from them. He assured them to double the amount of their investment in a short duration and return to them.

A victim approached the police and lodged a complaint, after which he was arrested and produced before the court.
