Hyderabad: Covid survivor goes all out to help others
Starting off with finding hospitals or oxygen suppliers in an ad hoc manner, she started gathering her resources together and engaged herself 24x7 into Covid relief
Hyderabad: Her encounter with Covid-19 in 2020 made 29-year-old Anoosha Vinay take up volunteering with a vengeance. And since then, she has been actively working with other volunteers, helping people find various Covid-19 related resources in the city. “My father and I tested positive during the first wave and my baby was just two months old. I felt very helpless and paranoid but that was the time when a friend helped me out a lot. I would definitely have lost my sanity with fear if not for the invaluable help and it made me realise several others need such assistance and I started volunteering actively. I don’t want others to go through the pain and fear that I went through then,” shares Anoosha.
Starting off with finding hospitals or oxygen suppliers in an ad hoc manner, she started gathering her resources together and engaged herself 24×7 into Covid relief. “I used to randomly search for oxygen suppliers, hospitals, medicine dealers on Google and make a lot of calls on this regard. But later I started organising the leads through spreadsheets and it turned out effective,” she shares.
The biggest challenge in volunteering is finding the right resources at the right time, she says. “There were many instances when our team worked hard to find ventilator beds or other crucial resources but the patient succumbed to the virus. It is important to have the right resources in hand before a request comes in.” Anoosha believes that volunteering towards Covid-relief made her a better person. “I realised we can always take time out and put it to good use,” she adds.
