Hyderabad: The rift between President Mohammed Azharuddin and the Apex Council members widened further as the latter decided to hold the Special General Meeting (SGM) of the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) on July 18.
‘Interim’ president John Manoj said Azharuddin had violated the constitution on many counts and let the SGM decide on the future course of the association. “Any creation of a new district association is the prerogative of the members. So let the AGM decide on this issue. As per the law, we have given 21-day notice so that the SGM will be held on July 18. The SGM can discuss the violation of office by Azharuddin,” he said.
This comes after Azharuddin had given affiliation to six district associations last week.
Manoj wanted to be clear on why he took over as the ‘interim’ president. “The Apex Council had asked me to take the role of interim president as the president was not available for the Apex Council meetings. We cannot keep postponing important matters of the association. We have gone according to the rule book and did not violate any law of the HCA constitution,” he added.
The Apex Council meeting was attended by Manoj, secretary R Vijayanand, joint secretary Naresh Sharma, treasurer Surender Agarwal, Councillor P Anuradha and players’ representative Parth Satwelekar.
Secretary Vijayanand, said in the note to all the club secretaries: “Notice is hereby given to the HCA General Body Members that a Special General Body Meeting is scheduled to take place on 18-7-2021 at 10 am at our registered office Uppal, Hyderabad to transact the following agenda: Discussion, debate and decision on Telangana districts, affiliations and Roadmap.”
Azharuddin has been terming the meetings of Apex Council as illegal ones. He has even been repeatedly saying that he is waiting for the verdict of Ombudsman Justice (retd) Deepak Verma’s show-cause notices on the five Apex Council members.
In other decisions taken in the Apex Council meeting on Sunday was the increase of payment to the umpires and insurance to the club secretaries, scorers, umpires and staff members.
The new cricket season, according to Manoj, will begin from July 7. “It will be 90-40 over format three-day leagues. We will discuss the T20 tournament in our next Apex Council meeting. We will be following strict Covid-19 protocols and we are holding two camps to vaccinate all the players, coaches, umpires, staff of the association,” he said.
