Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Cyber Crime police arrested a man from Bengaluru for allegedly threatening and extorting money from a victim.
The alleged fraudster Riddh Bedi (26), a resident of Brookefield in Bengaluru, posed as a woman on social media platforms and used to befriend men and later threaten and extort money from them.
The suspect befriended an NRI from California, USA, posing as a woman online. The suspect used a stolen identify and shared profile pictures with the victim, who reciprocated by sharing his own photos.
“Using the victim’s photos, Bedi extorted money and kept demanding for more. When the victim refused to pay more, Bedi started sending messages to the victim’s family to pressurize and force him to pay up,” DCP (cyber crimes) D Kavitha said.
On a complaint, the police registered a case and arrested the suspect.
