Hyderabad: Cyber fraudsters cheated an engineering student from the city to the tune of Rs 70,000 in the guise of purchasing furniture on a popular e-commerce site.
The 20-year-old youngster from Bagh Amberpet in Amberpet had recently posted an advertisement on the portal to sell a sofa set and within an hour, received a call from a person expressing interest. According to the police, the caller, who claimed to be from Nampally area, enquired about the cost and delivery details and then asked the youngster to scan a QR Code sent to his mobile phone.
“Within a few minutes of scanning the QR code, money got debited from his bank account,” an official said. The Amberpet police are investigating.
