Hyderabad: The CCS Special Crime Team, in coordination with Gandhinagar police on Friday, arrested five persons allegedly transporting dry ganja from Araku in Visakhapatnam district to Mumbai, and seized 38 kg of the contraband worth about Rs. 10 lakh.

The suspects were identified as Rajaram Swami Kannu Padaiyachi (78) of Maharashtra; Santosh Balaram Prajapathi, (65) of Mumbai; Vijayalaxmi Kaliyamurti Pellai (66) of Tamil Nadu; Silmina Kujur (36) of Jharkhand; and Sheela Devi (48) of Jharkhand.

According to the police, the suspects allegedly procured ganja in brown-coloured parcels from Araku and transported it by bus to Hyderabad. They would then board another bus to Mumbai and deliver the parcels at locations specified by an unidentified source.

Police said the suspects concealed the parcels in regular travel bags and travelled separately to evade detection. After reaching Hyderabad, they allegedly stayed at different lodges for about a day before proceeding to Mumbai. They were reportedly paid Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 12,000 for each delivery.

Some of the suspects have previous criminal history relating to ganja transportation.
