Commissioner of Food Safety teams find expired food items, severe cockroach infestation, rotten vegetables, foul-smelling kitchen walls, floors, and vessels

Hyderabad: The task force team of the Commissioner of Food Safety on Monday conducted inspections at Indian Durbar Restaurant, Narayanguda, and Hotel Ashoka, Lakdikapul, and detected several violations under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).

At Indian Durbar Restaurant, the inspecting teams detected expired food items including Masala Powder (3 packets), Cumin powder (3.5 kg/ Oct 2024), Hazelnut flavoured syrup (Sept 2024), Peach flavoured syrup (March 2024) and Chilli flakes (Mar 2024) and later discarded them.

The teams said that severe cockroach infestation was observed in the kitchen, rotten tomatoes, green chillies, and carrots with fungal infestation were observed and discarded. Food items were found in the fridge without preparation and use-by dates while pest control records and medical fitness certificates for food handlers were not available.

At Hotel Ashoka, the inspecting teams seized expired food items including Rosemary (Sept 2023) and curry cut chicken (10 kg), and discarded them.

The task force team also reported cockroach infestation in the kitchen, non-availability of water analysis reports, untidy and foul-smelling kitchen walls and floors, vessels in the kitchen and refrigerator were found to be rusty, synthetic food colours were also found being used in prepared items.

Rotten brinjal and cauliflower were seized and later discarded. There was no FoSTaC-trained supervisor despite more than 140 people working on the premises, the inspecting teams said.
