Hyderabad: This is a battle in which everyone has a role to play. And right from elected representatives to resident welfare associations and housing societies, all are stepping in to support the fight against Covid-19. While elected representatives are inspecting hospitals, taking up sanitation drives and serving food to the needy, RWAs and members of housing societies have formed teams to assist people in their localities.
Serilingampally MLA Arekapudi Gandhi has been inspecting several hospitals in the IT corridor while in the eastern part of the city, LB Nagar MLA and of Musi Riverfront Development Corporation chairman D Sudheer Reddy held a meeting with hospital managements in LB Nagar constituency the other day.
“I requested the representatives of corporate hospitals not to charge any extra amount from the families of Covid-19 patients,” said Reddy. Efforts to flatten the curve and help the poor were underway in the southern part of the city too. Members of the AIMIM party are distributing food in several parts of the old city.
While several politicians were discharging their duties, members of housing societies are also chipping in to help residents in their society amid the lockdown imposed to contain the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic. My Home Vihanga, a housing society in the Financial District is one such example. The society, home to 2,000 families, now has an exclusive Covid-19 crisis management group. The group members help other residents by making sure there is no shortage of essentials and medicines.
“The pandemic brought families in the society close, we are more concerned about each other’s wellbeing.” said Praveen Rao, secretary of the society.
Housing societies are also using their common areas and amenities blocks to take care of the needs of Covid-19 patients. “We have formed a Covid task force that makes sure all Covid guidelines are followed in the society,” said Narsimhan, president, Golf View Apartment, Nanakramguda.
Several other gated communities too have formed such task forces and have volunteers assigned to each block or tower to ensure coordination. Doctors living in these communities too are doing their bit in the battle.
